Job summary

Tidewater Community College is seeking an Installation & Repair Technician to support Audio Visual and microcomputer devices across the campus network. The role involves on-site installation, testing and repair, with emphasis on end-user support for staff, faculty, and students.

Responsibilities include configuring operating systems, maintaining network interfaces, and coordinating with Telecom/Network teams to ensure service quality and security.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of PCs, operating systems, peripherals.
• Knowledge of LAN/WAN, TCP/IP and large network environments.
• Knowledge of anti-virus and security practices in large WAN/LAN environments.
• Ability to install, troubleshoot, and repair desktop computers, operating systems, and peripherals.
• Strong verbal and written communication to interact with end users and staff.
• Ability to work independently or in a team and meet deadlines.
• Working knowledge of Voice over IP concepts for Ethernet networks.
• A+ certification or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform on-site and in-shop inspection, installation, testing, and repair of Audio Visual and microcomputer devices and peripherals.
• Provide first-level end user support to staff, faculty, and students.
• Assist in installing, configuring, and supporting desktop OS and applications.
• Set up and maintain network interface systems (Ethernet, IP phones, etc.).
• Coordinate work with Telecom, Network, and Support Specialists.
• Document work and complete required paperwork.
