Job summary

Uber is launching AV Labs to accelerate autonomous technology and build a high-velocity team turning real-world operations into data for autonomous partners. As a Fleet Engineering Lead in Sunnyvale, you will serve as the on-site technical lead at the intersection of Hardware, Software, and fleet operations, driving data collection programs across cities.

You will diagnose complex faults, translate designs into actionable playbooks, and scale deployments while mentoring staff and ensuring

Qualifications

• 5+ years in an advanced technical role with complex electromechanical systems or AV hardware.
• Strong problem-solving ability in ambiguous, fast-changing environments.
• Proficiency in Linux troubleshooting and scripting (Python or Bash).
• Process architecture: document workflows, SOPs, and train teams.
• Hands-on hardware experience with networking and sensors (LiDAR, Radar, Cameras, IMU) or CAN/Automotive Ethernet.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% to bootstrap new cities and audit sites.

Responsibilities

• Scale-Out & Site Bootstrapping: launch data collection in new cities and set up hardware to data offload.
• Advanced Diagnostics: on-site escalation for complex hardware/software faults and root-cause analysis.
• Upfit Validation & Serviceability: validate integration on upfitted vehicles and assess maintenance workflows.
• SOP Architecture & Fleet Standardization: design and document triage, calibration, and maintenance playbooks; conduct cross-site audits.
• Process Automation & Tooling: develop scripts/tools to automate tasks and accelerate data collection throughput.
