Job summary

Swarm Aero seeks a Software Engineer, Autonomy to own and scale the onboard autonomy stack across its swarming UAVs. You will guide perception, planning, and control systems and shape the architecture for a reliable, scalable swarm deployment.

You will strengthen cross-vehicle communication, decide between onboard/offboard compute, and lead a team of robotics engineers toward high-assurance autonomy in challenging environments. This role requires travel and hands-on leadership.

Qualifications

• Must have a Bachelor's degree in a technical field.
• 5+ years building and deploying autonomy software at a major aerospace or equivalent program.
• Own architecture for a shipped autonomous system, not just components.
• Deep expertise in at least one systems language (C/C++, Rust, or Go).
• Experience deploying and validating frontier autonomy systems (vision-language-action models, world models, trajectory optimization, sensor fusion, multi-agent coordination).
• Solid software engineering practices with testable, reliable code.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the autonomy stack for onboard perception, planning, and control.
• Harden and extend inter-robot and C2 communications amid degraded or contested links.
• Evaluate tradeoffs for onboard vs offboard compute and centralized vs distributed decision making.
• Translate integration and test outcomes into fielded capability.
• Mentor and guide a growing robotics team.
• Write clean, maintainable code and set engineering standards.
• Travel up to 25% for onsite test and integration events.
