Job summary

Skydio is seeking a Research Intern to architect and implement computer vision-driven simulations for autonomous drones. You will work with a world-class team to advance the simulator and ensure it scales across vehicle types and environments.

Responsibilities include core architecture, physics modeling, sensor simulation, and integration with the autonomy stack, with a focus on real-time performance and realistic behavior.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering experience with C++ and Python.
• Experience building complex systems where performance, determinism, or correctness matter.
• Comfort reasoning about time-synchronized systems, state machines, or real-time execution.
• Ability to work in a large, evolving codebase with multiple stakeholders.
• Interest in robotics, simulation, or physical systems.

Responsibilities

• Core Simulator Architecture: Design, implement, and evolve the foundational architecture of the Skydio Simulator.
• Physics and Dynamics: Improve physics models for vehicle motion and interactions.
• Sensor and Hardware Simulation: Build high-fidelity simulations of cameras and IMUs.
• Autonomy Stack Integration: Run and validate the autonomy stack in simulation.
• Feature Development on Top of the Core: Add simulator capabilities for training and testing.
• Performance and Fidelity: Optimize simulator performance and realism.
