Job summary

DoorDash Labs is hiring an Autonomy Platform Engineer to build the foundational software for the autonomy stack across robot and compute platforms. The role spans embedded Linux, robotics middleware, and system observability, with responsibilities from bringing up new hardware to reliable deployment and validation across robot generations.

You will collaborate with autonomy, firmware, electrical, hardware, manufacturing, and validation teams, reporting to the Autonomy Platform Lead.

Qualifications

• Strong production C++ and Python experience.
• Experience with embedded Linux, robotics, or complex mechatronic systems.
• Knowledge of OS, concurrency, networking, middleware, drivers, or real-time performance.
• Experience debugging across multiple software and hardware layers.
• Experience with profiling, tracing, observability, automated testing and CI.
• Familiarity with Bazel and Git; modern software-development practices.
• ROS/ROS2 or comparable robotics middleware experience preferred.
• Bonus: cross-disciplinary collaboration and clear communication across domains.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain core runtime, middleware, and platform services used by autonomy apps.
• Enable new compute, camera, lidar, and other sensor platforms.
• Improve orchestration, messaging, startup/shutdown behavior, and resource isolation.
• Develop system observability, tracing, performance measurement, diagnostics, and regression testing.
• Build data capture, replay, and debugging workflows.
• Create provisioning, packaging, deployment, integration-test, and platform-readiness tooling.
• Lead complex debugging across app, middleware, OS, driver, networking, timing and hardware boundaries.
