Job summary

The Boring Company in Bastrop, Texas is seeking a Robotics & Perception Engineer to own and implement autonomous perception pipelines and collision avoidance for TBM operations. You will develop real-time sensor fusion, vision, and planning to enable safe, reliable underground tunneling.

Ideal candidates have hands-on experience shipping production-grade autonomous robotics and strong C++/Python skills for embedded systems, with willingness to travel to job sites and work long hours as needed.

Qualifications

• Extensive real-world experience deploying autonomous robotics in production/battle-tested environments.
• Collision avoidance expertise with sensing pipelines, dynamic spatial models, and emergency halts.
• Extensive computer/machine vision experience with real-time processing in noisy data.
• Bachelor's or advanced degree in robotics, CS, EE or related with 5+ years of experience.
• Strong programming skills in C++ and Python for embedded systems performance.

Responsibilities

• Own and implement advanced perception pipelines for tunnel construction, enabling autonomous TBM operations.
• Build, deploy, and harden collision avoidance systems from raw sensor data to reactive control.
• Implement and maintain path planning for confined tunnel environments.
• Drive end-to-end autonomy hardware-to-operations with reliable integration.
• Iterate rapidly in a vertically integrated team, turning concepts into field-ready solutions.
