Job summary

Joby is seeking a Mechanical Engineer, Autonomy, to own electromechanical designs from concept through certification for next-generation autonomous aircraft. You will work within the System Electronics Mechanical team on piloting inceptors, air data probes, and computer assemblies, ensuring lightweight, reliable delivery and compliance with aerospace standards.

The role requires a strong mechanical/ aerospace background, hands-on prototyping, and collaboration across disciplines to optimize

Qualifications

B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent) with 5+ years of relevant industry experience (or Master's degree with 3+ years of experience)
Proficiency with CAD for complex surfacing, part design, and assemblies
Strong fundamentals in statics, dynamics, heat transfer, and materials science

Responsibilities

Own designs from concept to certification, including rapid prototyping and development testing
Mass optimization, stress analysis, and thermal analysis
Troubleshooting issues in manufacturing, testing, and in the field
Driving system safety, reliability, requirements, and integration considerations
Designing for manufacturability and cost at the component and assembly levels
Communicate design risks, complex concepts, and data clearly and honestly
Collaborate effectively across multiple areas of expertise
