Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; certification in medical billing/coding or healthcare administration preferred.
• Experience in insurance verification and prior authorization in a healthcare or PT setting is preferred.
• Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding.
• Proficient with EHR systems and billing software.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills with multi-tasking ability.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to build rapport with patients and insurers.
• HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.
• Typing speed of 45 WPM; proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel.

Responsibilities

• Verify insurance coverage for new patients including eligibility, benefits, copays, deductibles, and payer requirements.
• Obtain prior authorizations and re-authorizations for physical therapy; gather documentation and submit within deadlines.
• Monitor authorization status to ensure timely approvals and uninterrupted patient care.
• Coordinate with billing to support accurate claims processing and documentation.
• Educate patients on insurance benefits, financial responsibilities, and coverage details.
• Maintain detailed records in the EHR of verifications, authorizations, and communications.
• Collaborate with therapists and staff to ensure seamless care coordination and documentation.
