Job summary

Software Engineering Institute | Carnegie Mellon University seeks an autonomy engineer to identify, shape, apply, conduct, and lead engineering research in AI for autonomy. The role enhances simulation capabilities and applies these tools to support autonomy-related projects for government customers.

You will mentor teammates, collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, and contribute to engineering strategy within the SEI AI Division. This is an onsite role with travel to multiple SEI offices.

Qualifications

  • Deep Technical Knowledge across AI/ autonomy, ML, and systems engineering.
  • Experience with simulators and digital twins for autonomous systems.
  • Hands-on prototyping in AI for autonomy and uncrewed platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead interdisciplinary teams to convert research into prototype operational capabilities for government customers and stakeholders.
  • Conduct and lead prototyping in applied AI focusing on ML for autonomy and uncrewed systems (multi-domain).
  • Plan, develop, and execute an overall research and engineering strategy; influence national tech agenda.
  • Collaborate with researchers, government customers, and other stakeholders to identify challenges and research directions.
  • Mentor and share knowledge across the SEI AI Division, participating in design sessions.
