Job summary

The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University seeks an autonomy engineer in the AI for Autonomy Lab. You will identify, shape, apply, conduct, and lead engineering research matching government needs, with a focus on enhancing simulation capabilities for autonomy-related projects.

You will lead multi-disciplinary teams to turn research into prototype capabilities, prototype AI in autonomy and uncrewed systems, and contribute to a national research and engineering

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science or related field with eight years of experience; MS with five years; PhD with two years.
• Onsite based 5 days/week at SEI offices in Pittsburgh, PA or Arlington, VA.
• Willing to travel moderately (25%) to other SEI offices, sponsor sites, conferences.
• Background check and eligibility for security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Solution Development: turn research results into prototype operational capabilities for government customers and stakeholders.
• Hands-on Prototyping: conduct and lead novel prototyping in applied AI focusing on ML in autonomy and uncrewed systems.
• Strategy: plan and carry out research and engineering strategy influencing national agenda.
• Collaboration: work with teams of developers, researchers, designers, and leads; engage with government customers.
• Mentoring: improve team capabilities by mentoring and sharing insights.
