Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University seeks an Autonomy Engineer in the AI for Autonomy Lab to identify, shape, and lead engineering research that supports critical government needs. The role focuses on enhancing simulation capabilities and applying tools to autonomy projects for uncrewed systems.

You will mentor peers, collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, and influence national research directions while traveling to partner sites as needed.

Qualifications

  • Deep research or engineering experience in applied autonomy and AI.
  • Experience with ML, sensor fusion, planning, CV, or related areas.
  • Proven track record in deploying complex autonomous systems.

Responsibilities

  • Turn research results into prototype operational capabilities for government customers.
  • Lead novel prototyping in AI with focus on autonomy and uncrewed systems.
  • Plan and execute an overall research and engineering strategy.
  • Collaborate with researchers, customers, and stakeholders to define directions.
  • Mentor team members and share engineering insights across the division.
