Job summary

Dematic is seeking a Software Engineer – R&D & Sustaining to translate requirements into scalable AGV software solutions in our Grand Rapids area facility. You will design, develop, test, and debug autonomous vehicle software, including navigation, perception, motion control, and safety systems.

You will own certain modules, ensure long-term maintainability, and collaborate with internal teams and customers to drive product improvements.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
3+ years of software development experience.
Proficiency in Delphi or similar object-oriented programming languages.
Strong understanding of software development principles, practices, and lifecycle management.
Experience with multi-threaded and client-server architectures.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience with AGVs, robotics, automation, or industrial systems is preferred.
Experience with GUI development or industrial protocols is preferred.
Familiarity with Agile/Scrum and tools like JIRA and GitLab is preferred.
Willingness to travel up to 20%.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with internal teams to translate requirements into scalable and robust AGV software solutions.
Design, develop, test, and debug software for autonomous vehicle systems, including job sequencing, environmental perception, object detection, motion control, navigation, embedded I/O, GUIs, and safety systems.
Take ownership of assigned software modules, ensuring quality and long-term support.
Investigate software issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement durable solutions.
Develop and maintain software using Delphi and related tools and frameworks.
Support software productization and deployment with execution teams for successful releases.
Participate in software release cycles including development, testing, debugging, and deployment.
Integrate new mechatronics technologies into the software stack.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support new vehicle development and product improvements.
Contribute to software development practices and processes that improve product quality and maintainability.
