Job summary

Nuro is seeking an experienced mechanical designer to join the Autonomous Vehicle Hardware group. You will own the research, design, and delivery of autonomous hardware that enables the Nuro Driver system across platforms and use cases, spanning electronics packaging, sensing, and vehicle integration.

Collaborate with partners and cross-functional teams to define architecture, drive parts from concept to production, and push for quality, cost, and reliability improvements.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of mechanical design experience with electro‑mechanical hardware.
• Experience moving from prototypes to mass production with quality/manufacturing teams.
• Experience with rapid prototyping, sheet metal, injection molding, machining, and casting.
• Ability to optimize geometry for cost, weight, strength/durability, and thermal analysis (FEA/hand).
• Experience with reliability teams to develop test plans for designs.
• Collaboration with fabrication/vendors to communicate design requirements and manage early production runs.
• Self-starter with strong communication and organizational skills.
• CAD proficiency; UG NX familiarity is a plus.
• Willing to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Own the engineering design, development, and release of autonomous hardware for the Nuro Driver system across customer platforms.
• Lead the specification and integration with vehicle partners to meet performance needs and customer requirements.
• Collaborate across cross-functional teams to develop sensing and electronics architecture for mass deployment on public roads.
• Benchmark performance, integration, and reliability of electronics technologies to guide make-vs-buy decisions.
• Identify and engage key suppliers to bring ideas from concept to production readiness.
• Manage parts and assemblies from proof-of-concept to production readiness.
• Drive part quality, cost reductions, and efficiency improvements.
• Communicate technical decisions and development plans to management.
