Job summary

UC San Diego Health seeks an experienced registered nurse to provide autonomous patient care in a high-volume multispecialty outpatient clinic. The role emphasizes clinical assessment, procedure assistance, education, and contributing to efficient clinic flow.

Responsibilities include triage, coverage for sick calls and vacations, and coordination with multispecialty teams to ensure excellent patient experiences in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
• RN License issued by the State of California.
• BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire.
• Three (3) years of nursing experience in a large complex healthcare or clinic setting.
• One (1) year of nursing experience in ambulatory care setting.
• Knowledge and nursing experience in one or multiple areas: Urology, Orthopedics, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Cardiology, GI.
• Demonstrates critical nursing thinking and clinical skills to identify and implement nursing interventions and evaluate results in a Urology, Orthopedics, and/or Minimally Invasive Surgery clinic setting.
• Ability to take initiative, prioritize critical demands, exercise independent judgement and work in a team environment.
• Knowledge and training in patient care, environmental care functions, medication/supplies/equipment supply management.
• Knowledge of universal precautions, and body mechanics.
• Knowledge and experience with EPIC and online scheduling.
• Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients
• Previous experience with triage/telephone triage.
• Ability to perform triage and handle critical and/or urgent situations with accuracy, expediency and speed, accuracy and tact.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care, including supporting clinic flow and throughput for a high-volume clinic.
• Assist with procedures and administer medications.
• Provide patient education and run independent nurse clinics that require assessment and critical thinking.
• Coverage for sick calls, vacations, and messaging for the clinic team.
• Collaborate with multispecialty health care teams to ensure optimal care for patients and families in a busy outpatient clinic.
