Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking a registered nurse to join the 8th floor Hillcrest Medical Center unit, delivering autonomous nursing care in a fast-paced progressive care setting.

Requirements include California RN licensure, BLS/ACLS, and 2+ years in PCU/IMU with psych-crisis experience; ART commitment within six months. This role involves weekend work and possible CNIII placement after review.

Qualifications

• Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
• RN license issued by the State of California.
• BLS and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six months of hire date.
• A minimum of two (2) years of recent inpatient acute Progressive Care (PCU) or Intermediate Medical Unit (IMU) RN experience.
• Previous experience (within the last 12 months) with psych patients, including legal psychiatric holds, and/or Crisis Prevention Training.
• Demonstrates a solid understanding of nursing-sensitive indicators relevant to progressive care and integrates these measures into daily practice to promote quality and safety outcomes.
• Demonstrates critical nursing thinking and clinical skills in progressive care population to identify and implement nursing interventions and evaluate results.
• Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
• Demonstrated de-escalation skills with vulnerable and/or psychiatric patient populations.

Responsibilities

• Autonomous nursing care within ANA Standards of Practice; independent judgments within interdisciplinary care.
• All performance expectations associated with this position are performed at the PRACTITIONER Level.
