Job summary

Pronto in San Francisco seeks a Senior Safety Engineer to lead off-road safety cases for autonomous haulage systems. You will build and defend safety arguments, perform system and operational hazard analyses, and define tests and site controls. The role includes managing incident triage, change assessment, and mentoring a small team of engineers.

You will work with Python or SQL to analyze event data, travel to sites as needed, and help ensure rigorous safety standards across deployments.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in systems safety or safety engineering.
• Built a safety argument from scratch and defended its sufficiency.
• Structured hazard analysis depth at system and operational levels.
• Wrote the process for investigation, triage, and qualification.
• Comfortable leading one or two engineers while writing the safety case.
• Proficient in Python or SQL to analyze event data.
• Willingness to travel to sites.

Responsibilities

• Build the off-road truck safety case with claims, evidence, limits, and open items.
• Perform hazard analysis and tie results to site controls.
• Prepare tests and define acceptance criteria and evidence.
• Manage commissioning readiness and gate between installed and operating.
• Own incident intake, severity model, investigations, and corrective actions.
• Assess changes from software releases, new truck variants, or site layouts.
• Grow and lead a small team of engineers.
• Develop tooling and site risk assessments, adapt procedures per site.
• Maintain boundary discipline: hazard lists as hypotheses, not final risk.
