Job summary

DoorDash Labs in San Francisco seeks a Senior or Staff System Safety Engineer to lead safety for autonomous delivery platforms and to develop and validate safety cases across system and component levels. The role emphasizes rigorous risk management within a fast-paced iterative environment.

Collaborate with systems, software, mechanical, electrical, and operations teams to perform FHA, FMEA, and FTA analyses, quantify risk, and guide design decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Aerospace, Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
• Experience developing safety cases and safety requirements for safety-critical systems such as self-driving or aerospace domains.
• Proficiency in functional decomposition and system requirements definition with MBSE familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Develop and own the overarching system safety case for autonomous delivery operations.
• Derive and maintain system-level safety and functional requirements with traceability.
• Collaborate across systems, software, mechanical, electrical, and operations teams to embed safety early.
• Perform FHA, FMEA, and FTA analyses to evaluate hazards and mitigation strategies.
• Quantify risks and communicate safety impacts to leadership and stakeholders.
