Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care - Department of Anesthesia seeks an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner to perform pre‑operative and post‑anesthesia assessments for surgical patients in the OR. The ARNP will educate residents and students, participate in research, and collaborate with CRNAs, nurses, physicians, and administrators to ensure safe, high‑quality patient care.

The role requires an ARNP license in Iowa, a master’s or doctoral nursing degree, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Master's or Doctorate degree from accredited Nursing program with current certification in specialty area.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Ability to prioritize workflow in a fast-paced perioperative setting.

Responsibilities

• Review patient records including prior anesthetics, surgical and nursing work‑up, consultant work‑up, and other relevant notes.
• Evaluate patient according to standard anesthetic evaluation.
• Provide postoperative PACU management including pain, nausea, and hemodynamic care.
• Assist with multimodal pain management and regional anesthesia follow‑up.
• Participate in development of standardized perioperative care pathways and quality initiatives.
• Teach pre‑operative/pre‑anesthesia evaluation to junior residents or SRNA students.
