Job summary

Adler Pelzer Group in Troy, MI is seeking a Tooling Engineer to manage development and launch of tooling for automotive components, and to support DFM with the R&D team.

You will review drawings for manufacturability, collaborate with tool suppliers, and track tooling progress in the Tooling Tracking System. Travel up to 50% is required. The role offers competitive pay and comprehensive benefits within a global Tier One supplier.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or 5 years’ experience in tool manufacturing.
• Strong bias for action and follow-through.
• Ability for international travel.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills.
• Hands-on skills with tooling and tooling materials for acoustical products and soft trim for automotive.
• Good communication skills both written & oral.
• Ability to use AutoCad, Catia, SpinFire and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Reviews product drawings for manufacturing feasibility and recommends design changes for manufacturability.
• Understands injection molding, compression molding/pinch trim, vacuum molding, and related tooling.
• Recommends tooling suppliers based on performance, quality, communication, and delivery.
• Coordinates with suppliers to ensure tool design and production feasibility.
• Schedules and attends weekly meetings with Program Management to discuss tooling status.
• Monitors tooling progress and quality in the Tooling Tracking System (TTS).
• Documents tooling status reports and escalates major issues to tooling management.
• Attends tooling tryouts and ensures parts meet data specifications and sign-offs.
• Leads cost estimation for new tooling and engineering changes.
• Travel up to 25-50%.
