Job summary

HARMAN Automotive’s Experiential R&D team seeks an Automotive Sound Quality & Acoustic Engineer in Novi, MI. You will lead benchmarking activities, coordinate subjective evaluations, and develop listening panels to advance automotive audio systems.

You will work with global teams to improve evaluation methods, integrate new technologies, and support training and demonstrations in our Reference Room and facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field (Acoustics, Engineering, Physics, etc.)
• 3+ years in audio/acoustics, automotive systems, or related technical projects
• Strong interest in sound quality and critical listening
• Hands-on aptitude with equipment, vehicles, prototypes, or lab systems
• Ability to learn complex technical systems and develop practical solutions
• Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration skills

Responsibilities

• Own and coordinate automotive sound quality benchmarking activities in North America.
• Manage regional subjective sound quality evaluation capability and ensure studies follow global methods.
• Recruit, train, and develop listeners for sound quality evaluations.
• Participate as a trained listener and apply acoustic measurement and judgment.
• Represent sound quality methods and findings to internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with global teams to improve evaluation methods and training.
• Own operation and development of Novi Reference Room and related resources.
• Integrate new Harman technologies into research assets.
• Support development, integration, and tuning of training/demonstration vehicles.
• Serve as hands-on audio/acoustic resource for projects involving audio systems and prototypes.
• Design and run acoustic experiments, listening tests, and proof-of-concept systems.
• Independently manage technical projects from concept to completion.
• Develop procedures and training materials sharing knowledge across teams.
