Job description

Summary/Objective

The Flat Rate Technician diagnoses and performs repairs on all vehicle components with efficiency and accuracy, adhering to dealership and manufacturer/factory standards.

Essential Functions
  • Performs vehicle inspections, troubleshooting, and testing to determine required or recommended repairs.
  • Accurately diagnoses malfunctions and performs necessary repairs, including but not limited to fixing engine failures, repairing mechanical and electrical system malfunctions, and replacing parts and components as required.
  • Examines assigned vehicles to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Verifies vehicle serviceability and ensures quality repairs the first time by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems as required.
  • Ensures customer vehicles are kept clean during the repair process.
  • Contains costs by using warranties and evaluating service and parts options for repairs as required.
  • Communicates with the Service Advisor and/or Dispatcher if additional work is needed.
  • Assists the Service Writer as needed to write work orders, conduct test rides, interact with customers, or provide any other support necessary to guarantee customer satisfaction.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying the receipt of parts and supplies.
  • Maintains a clean, efficient work area and assists in keeping the shop neat and organized.
  • Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order in accordance with operating procedures.
  • Understands automotive terminology and keeps abreast of technological changes.
  • Follows all attendance and punctuality standards with strict adherence to timekeeping protocols. Employees are required to record the beginning and ending times of any shift, break, or departure from work for personal reasons.
  • Adheres to the Code of Business Ethics and Conduct.
  • Understands and follows all work rules, procedures, and lawful directions from supervisors.
  • Upholds the company's non-disclosure and confidentiality policies and agreements.
  • Maintains a professional appearance in accordance with company policy.
  • Attends pertinent training upon request.
  • Attends company meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

Primarily works in an automotive shop environment. The workspace is covered but may involve exposure to various weather conditions (such as heat and cold) as well as safety hazards inherent to the nature of the work. May experience loud noise on a regular basis.

Physical Demands
  • Medium/Heavy Work: Will lift over 50 pounds with an assistance device required, and/or frequently lift or carry objects weighing up to or over 35 pounds with an assistance device available as needed.
  • Requires standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Requires the ability to push, pull, climb, stoop, kneel, reach, grasp, and walk on a regular basis.
  • Involves repetitive motion.
  • Requires the ability to talk and hear clearly.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Evening, weekend, and holiday work hours may be required.

Required Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus two years of related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Prior Audi Technician Certification is preferred.
