Job summary

UPS is seeking a reliable Automotive Mechanic for our fleet maintenance team in Arlington, Texas. The role covers maintenance of delivery vehicles, heavy-duty tractors, and trailers using diesel, gasoline, and alternative fuels. Must meet DOT requirements and be able to work night shifts (6:00 p.m.

– 3:00 a.m., Mon–Fri). Qualified candidates have journeyman automotive experience with heavy-duty vehicles, diagnostic tool proficiency, and hands-on welding/cutting skills.

Qualifications

  • Must have hands-on experience with heavy-duty vehicles.
  • DOT inspections experience required.
  • Experience with diagnostic equipment and scan tools.
  • Experience working with alternative fuels and CNG vehicles is a plus.
  • Welding and cutting experience.
  • Must be dependable and able to report to work on time.

Responsibilities

  • Meets D.O.T requirements as per job assignment.
  • Operate vehicles and power tools and pneumatic tools.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot a diverse fleet of delivery vehicles, tractors, and trailers.
  • Follow safety protocols and wear PPE.

Job Description:

Seeking a reliable Automotive Mechanic to join our outstanding fleet maintenance team. The Automotive Technician will be responsible for maintaining a diverse range of equipment, including delivery vehicles, heavy-duty on-road tractors, and trailers from various manufacturers. These vehicles’ propulsion systems include diesel, gasoline, and alternative technologies such as compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas, propane, hybrid, and electrical in some locations.Automotive Technicians must be skilled in troubleshooting and maintaining various systems, including hydraulic brakes, air brakes, electrical systems, and engine controls.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Meets D.O.T requirements required by job assignment
  • Bends, stoops, squats, kneels, crouches, crawls, climbs ladders and stairs, stands, walks, and turns/pivots frequently throughout duration of workday
  • Sits infrequently, as required,throughout duration of workday
  • Exercises simple hand grasping, power hand grasping, fine hand manipulation, and reaching from foot level to above shoulder level as necessary to complete assigned tasks
  • Operates standard and manual transmission
  • Operates power and pneumatic tools
Requirements
  • Must have an active driver’s license issued by the state
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Must be willing to work night shift - 6:00 p.m. - 3:00 a.m., Monday-Friday
  • Must possess the required hand tools required to perform the applicable job assignment.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Current documented Journeyman Automotive Mechanic experience working with heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Experience using diagnostic equipment, scan tools and personal computer
  • Experience working on CNG - Compressed natural gas vehicles.
  • Hands-on experience with fleet repairs, welding and cutting.
  • Experience performing DOT Inspections in trucks
  • Dependable with ability to report to work on a regular and timely basis and complete scheduled workday on a consistent basis
  • Available to work varying shifts, additional hours and/or overtime depending on service needs
  • Wears personal protective equipment as required
  • Works in an environment with variable temperatures and humidity (climatic conditions), exposure to cleaning materials, petroleum products, dust, dirt, and noise, outside inclement weather, etc.
  • Works cooperatively in a diverse work environment
  • Communicates effectivelythrough sight, hearing, and/or otherwise, to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper job safety conditions
  • Associate’s degree in Auto Tech - preferred

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The starting pay for this position is $39.92 with a one- year progression to TOP PAY $46.97 per hour. For union-represented postings, wage rates and ranges and benefit offerings are governed by applicable collective bargaining agreement provisions.

Hired applicants are eligible for weekly pay, extensive training, 401(K), defined-benefit pension plan, medical-dental and vision after waiting and or probation period, $0 healthcare premium, paid vacation, paid sick and family and medical leave time as required by law, paid holidays, discounted employee stock purchase program.
