UPS is hiring a Permanent Automotive Technician in Sparks, NV to support a diverse fleet of delivery vehicles, tractors, and trailers. The role involves maintaining diesel, gas, CNG and hybrid propulsion systems, troubleshooting hydraulic brakes, electrical systems and engine controls.

Eligible candidates should have Journeyman experience with medium-duty vehicles, DOT inspection ability, and ASE certification preferred. Wage starts at $44.25/hr with growth to $49.17/hr; union bargaining applies.

Qualifications

  • Current Journeyman Automotive Mechanic experience with medium-duty vehicles.
  • Experience with diesel, gas and alternative propulsion technologies.
  • DOT inspections experience and highway/vehicle safety knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Meet DOT requirements as required by assignment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles.
  • Use diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot issues.
  • Operate standard and manual transmissions and power tools.
  • Work varied shifts and report to work reliably.

Job Description

Seeking a reliable Automotive Mechanic to join our outstanding fleet maintenance team. The Automotive Technician will be responsible for maintaining a diverse range of equipment, including delivery vehicles, heavy-duty on-road tractors, and trailers from various manufacturers. These vehicles' propulsion systems include diesel, gasoline, and alternative technologies such as compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas, propane, hybrid, and electrical in some locations. Automotive Technicians must be skilled in troubleshooting and maintaining various systems, including hydraulic brakes, air brakes, electrical systems, and engine controls.

Responsibilities And Duties
  • Meets D.O.T requirements required by job assignment
  • Bends, stoops, squats, kneels, crouches, crawls, climbs ladders and stairs, stands, walks, and turns/pivots frequently throughout duration of workday
  • Sits infrequently, as required,throughout duration of workday
  • Exercises simple hand grasping, power hand grasping, fine hand manipulation, and reaching from foot level to above shoulder level as necessary to complete assigned tasks
  • Operates standard and manual transmission
  • Operates power and pneumatic tools
Requirements
  • Must have an active driver’s license issued by the state
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Must be willing to work night shift - 7:00 p.m. - 3:30 a.m., Monday-Friday
  • Must possess the required hand tools required to perform the applicable job assignment.
  • CDL Class A or B - Preferred
Knowledge And Skills
  • Current documented Journeyman Automotive Mechanic experience working with medium-duty vehicles.
  • Experience using diagnostic equipment, scan tools and personal computer
  • Experience working on diesel, gas and CNG
  • Hands-on experience with fleet repairs, welding and cutting.
  • Experience performing DOT Inspections in trucks
  • Dependable with ability to report to work on a regular and timely basis and complete scheduled workday on a consistent basis
  • Available to work varying shifts, additional hours and/or overtime depending on service needs
  • Wears personal protective equipment as required
  • Works in an environment with variable temperatures and humidity (climatic conditions), exposure to cleaning materials, petroleum products, dust, dirt, and noise, outside inclement weather, etc.
  • Works cooperatively in a diverse work environment
  • Communicates effectivelythrough sight, hearing, and/or otherwise, to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper job safety conditions
  • Tech school background - preferred
  • ASE Certification - preferred

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The starting pay for this position is $44.25 with a one-year progression to TOP PAY $49.17 per hour. For union-represented postings, wage rates and ranges and benefit offerings are governed by applicable collective bargaining agreement provisions.

Hired applicants are eligible for weekly pay, extensive training, 401(K), defined-benefit pension plan, medical-dental and vision after waiting and or probation period, $0 healthcare premium, paid vacation, paid sick and family and medical leave time as required by law, paid holidays, discounted employee stock purchase program.
