Job summary

Anne Arundel County in the Fleet Division is seeking an Automotive Mechanic I to maintain and repair a variety of vehicles. You will start under close supervision and progress toward independent routine repairs, with opportunities to assist in more complex tasks.

The role requires comprehension of manuals, safety awareness, and the ability to diagnose defects. Diesel experience is preferred; the position is full-time and safety-sensitive, with potential for shift variation.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of methods, tools, and techniques used in automotive repair.
• Ability to interpret service manuals, specifications and diagrams.
• Understanding safety hazards and precautions of the trade.
• Ability to diagnose defects and adapt tools/parts to problems.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair a variety of automotive equipment including cars, trucks, and tractors.
• Inspect fluid levels and replenish as necessary; tune engines and replace parts as needed.
• Perform tire changes, spark plug replacement, timing, brakes, and exhaust work.
• Road-test vehicles and report safety issues; assist higher-level mechanics when needed.
• Keep shop and County vehicles clean; adhere to safety and CDS policies.
