Bland Landscaping Company in Apex, NC is seeking an Automotive Fleet Mechanic to maintain, diagnose, and repair our diverse landscaping vehicle fleet. You will work on light- and medium-duty trucks, trailers, and equipment powered by gasoline and diesel engines.

The role emphasizes preventative maintenance, proactive diagnostics, and timely repairs to maximize uptime and safety for field crews. Experience with fleet vehicles and a practical, hands-on approach is essential.

Qualifications

• Advanced diagnostics using tools, testing equipment, and repair manuals.
• Diagnose and repair engines, drivetrains, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical, HVAC, and hydraulic systems.
• Maintain and repair diesel and gasoline powertrains in commercial fleet vehicles.
• Perform routine service: oil changes, lubrications, fluids, filters, DOT inspections, and scheduled maintenance.
• Inspect, maintain, and repair trailers, including brakes, wiring, lights, tires, and bearings.
• Mount, balance, repair, and replace tires; monitor tire condition for fleet safety.
• Assist with maintenance and repair of landscaping equipment and light heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct preventative maintenance, oil changes, lubrication, fluid services, filter replacements, and DOT inspections.
• Inspect and repair trailers, including braking, wiring, lights, tires, and bearings.
• Support seasonal readiness and fleet reliability to minimize downtime.

Job description

The role of Automotive Fleet Mechanic is intended to maintain, diagnose, and repair a diverse fleet of landscaping vehicles and equipment. This role is heavily focused on the automotive fleet, including light- and medium-duty trucks, dump trucks, pickups, trailers, and commercial vehicles powered by both gasoline and diesel engines.

The Automotive Fleet Mechanic plays a critical role in reducing downtime, maximizing fleet reliability, and ensuring our crews have safe, dependable equipment every day. The ideal candidate is a skilled technician with strong diagnostic abilities, a proactive approach to preventative maintenance, and experience working on commercial fleet vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet Maintenance & Repair

• Advanced Diagnostics: Perform comprehensive inspections and troubleshooting of gasoline and diesel-powered fleet vehicles using diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and repair manuals.
• Vehicle Repairs: Diagnose and repair engines, drivetrains, transmissions, brake systems, steering, suspension, electrical systems, HVAC systems, and hydraulic components as required.
• Diesel & Gas Engine Service: Maintain and repair commercial trucks and fleet vehicles with both diesel and gasoline powertrains.
• Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine service including oil changes, lubrication, fluid services, filter replacements, DOT inspections, and scheduled maintenance programs.
• Trailer Maintenance: Inspect, maintain, and repair utility, dump, and equipment trailers, including braking systems, wiring, lights, tires, and bearings.
• Tire & Wheel Service: Mount, balance, repair, and replace tires while monitoring overall tire condition and fleet safety.
• Equipment Support: Assist with maintenance and repair of landscaping equipment and light heavy equipment as needed.

Fleet Reliability & Operations

• Proactive Fleet Management: Identify developing mechanical issues and recommend repairs before failures occur in the field.
• Emergency Repairs: Respond to breakdowns and urgent repair needs to minimize downtime and support operational demands.
• Vehicle Readiness: Ensure all fleet assets are properly maintained, inspected, and ready for daily production operations.
• Seasonal Support: Assist in preparing vehicles and equipment for seasonal demands, including winter weather and snow response operations.

Inventory & Documentation

• Parts Management: Research, source, and order parts, supplies, and materials needed to complete repairs efficiently.
• Maintenance Records: Accurately document inspections, repairs, preventative maintenance, labor hours, and parts usage.
• Inventory Control: Maintain appropriate stock levels of commonly used parts and shop supplies.
• Shop Organization: Maintain a clean, organized, and professional shop environment with proper tool accountability and equipment care.

Safety & Compliance

• DOT & Vehicle Compliance: Ensure fleet vehicles meet all applicable federal, state, and company safety standards.
• Safety Inspections: Conduct routine safety inspections to identify hazards and prevent equipment failures.
• OSHA Compliance: Follow OSHA regulations and company safety policies at all times.
• Safe Work Practices: Utilize proper PPE, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe repair practices while performing maintenance activities.
