Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Hardware Engineer – MCU to join the Semiconductor Center of Excellence in Warren, MI. You will own MCU hardware deliverables for in-house ECU designs, from I/O mapping to reference schematics, and lead DFMEA for MCU sub-circuits while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

You will perform board bring-up, electrical characterization, and hands-on debugging on ARM cores, ensuring design intent ahead of qualification and coordinating with silicon suppliers to meet

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related field.
  • 4+ years in hardware design and development with board-level ownership.
  • Knowledge of MCU subsystems and peripherals (SPI, I2C, UART/LIN, CAN, ethernet).
  • Experience with pin planning, I/O mapping, and translating requirements into hardware definitions.
  • Hands-on circuit design, analysis, DFMEA, simulations, and schematic capture (Mentor Graphics).
  • Board bring-up, electrical characterization, and hardware validation of MCUs or similar silicon.
  • Experience with debugging tools like oscilloscopes and JTAG probes.

Responsibilities

  • Own MCU I/O and resource mapping for in-house ECU designs.
  • Develop MCU deliverables: signal matrix, pin mappings, reference schematics.
  • Lead DFMEA for MCU sub-circuits and feed into ECU DFMEA.
  • Execute electrical characterization and functional test plans for MCUs.
  • Perform hands-on debugging and verification on ARM cores.
  • Define MCU-to-peripheral interfaces and support change-control with suppliers.
  • Collaborate with ECU hardware, HWIO/software, and PCB teams to align requirements.
  • Develop clear component specs to enable timely sourcing.
  • Interact with silicon and tooling suppliers to resolve issues.
  • Stay current with MCU portfolios and technology roadmaps.
