Job summary

Big O Tires in Milpitas, CA is seeking an Automotive Lead Service Technician to diagnose drivability and electrical systems, while leading a team to elevate customer care.

The role requires 3–5 years of automotive repair experience, ASE certification (A1–A8) and a valid driver’s license; you will train and mentor technicians, perform vehicle inspections, and explain findings clearly.

Qualifications

• Reading, writing and math skills required.
• Must have a valid automobile driver’s license at all times and pass DMV requirements as applicable.
• Minimum 3–5 years of automotive repair experience; vocational-technical schooling or third-party certificates acceptable.
• ASE certification in at least 3 of A1–A8 required (new hires may have up to 2 years to comply).
• Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair to manufacturing specifications.
• Experience in brake, hydraulic, electrical, suspension, exhaust, fuel ignition, A/C and computer systems.
• Explain diagnoses and needed repairs to non-mechanics.
• Lead vehicle inspections and mentor technicians in performing technical tasks.

Job Description

The Lead Technician/Mechanic position requires talent and technical expertise to diagnose drivability and electrical systems, while using leadership and mentoring skills in driving a team toward increased customer care and satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair to Mfg. specifications
• Background in all aspects of vehicle repair and maintenance including:
  • Complete brake and hydraulic repair experience
  • Diagnostics, Exhaust systems and troubleshooting background
  • Primary and/or advanced fuel ignition experience
  • Electrical, suspension and alignment, air conditioning and computer systems
• Adequately explain technical diagnoses and needed repairs to non-mechanical individuals
• Shop Leader: Complete Vehicle Inspection Program responsibilities as well as training and assisting fellow technicians/mechanics in performing technical activities.

Position Qualifications

• Reading, writing and math skills
• Must have a valid automobile driver’s license at all times and be able to pass a DMV Motor Vehicle reposr for Insurance Coverage
• Must have a minimum 3 to 5 years of automotive repair experience, completion of Vocational-Technical School program in a related field or demonstrated skills via third party certificates/assessment.
• A.S.E. certification in at least 3 (three) of A1-A8 is required. (New hires with external similar qualifications/certifications will have up to 2 years of employment to comply)
• Maintains Federal, State and Local certification/license where applicable.
• Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people
