Job summary

Stark State College in Canton, OH is seeking an Automotive Lab Technician to support the Automotive, Transportation, and CDL labs by maintaining equipment, vehicles, and materials, and by promoting organized, safe and efficient lab operations.

The technician reports to the department chair and will handle lab maintenance, equipment ordering, inventory, prep of labs, and delivery of materials, with a typical schedule 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Monday–Friday.

Qualifications

  • H.S. diploma or GED, plus at least 2-5 years of experience or education in an automotive, service, technical, or lab environment where various types of automobiles, tools, and equipment is maintained.
  • Valid Ohio Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • General routine maintenance on lab vehicles, machines, and equipment
  • Ordering supplies, as needed
  • Make recommendations for modifying or updating laboratory materials as needed. (This includes researching and obtaining quotes.)
  • Providing technical support, when necessary
  • Sorts, files, labels, and verifies tooling, fixtures, and tooling bins.
  • Receives new components and materials, sorts and places appropriately in the labs.
  • Cleans and maintains components stored in the labs and keeps the rooms organized.
  • Conducts inventory of components and fixtures in the labs and prepares and maintains inventory reports and records for the supervisor and instructors.
  • Manages pickup and delivery of materials, tools, vehicles, and fixtures for labs.
  • Visually inspect components for obvious damage and reports to supervisor

Automotive Lab Technician

The duties and responsibilities of the Lab Technician - Automotive, Transportation, and CDL Department are to assist the chair, faculty, and staff in supporting our laboratory equipment, machines, vehicles, and materials, with the primary goal of optimizing lab organization, maintenance, and support components contained within the Automotive, Transportation, and CDL department labs. The Lab Technician reports to the department chair and has responsibility for all aspects of the department's lab needs.

Salary range: Min: $41,906/yr. - Max: $54,478/yr.

Typical Hours of Work: 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The schedule may vary based on College needs.

To be considered, you’ll need:
  • H.S. diploma or GED, plus at least 2-5 years of experience or education in an automotive, service, technical, or lab environment where various types of automobiles, tools, and equipment is maintained.
  • Valid Ohio Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in a technical field or completion of an apprenticeship program in HVAC, electrical, mechanical, or other related fields.
  • Welding Experience
  • Current, valid Forklift operator's license
  • Ability to operate pickup truck and trailer, safely securing vehicles and loads when hauling.
