Automotive Diesel Mechanic

Program Summary

The Marine Corps Prepositioning Program (MCPP), based in Jacksonville, Florida, provides maintenance and logistic services to the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC). For over 35 years, we have planned, coordinated, and executed maintenance and logistic services for ground combat vehicles and support equipment for USMC Expeditionary Forces.

Job Summary

Maintain, service, inspect, and repair combustion-powered automotive vehicles, over-the-road trucks, and comparable vehicles such as light combat vehicles and trucks, along with other motor transport equipment. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Perform operator, intermediate, and limited major rebuild levels of maintenance, including spot painting. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Basic Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Four years of directly related work experience.
  • Certificate from a vocational school or recognized source in electrical or automotive repair preferred.
  • Completion of basic automotive mechanics, automotive organizational maintenance, and automotive intermediate maintenance courses or equivalents.
  • MVAC 609 Technician Certification.
  • Completion of advanced motor transport maintenance courses or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of heavy-duty machinery, engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and other parts and systems.
  • Ability to detect faults, determine causes, and identify repair methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret parts lists, manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Thorough understanding of component operations and repairs, including suspension, engine, transmission, and related systems.
  • Ability to utilize technical manuals and instructions for repairs.
  • Valid State Motor Vehicle Operator License; ability to obtain and maintain a Tactical Operator License if necessary.
  • Ability to comply with safety, quality, and time standards.
  • U.S. Citizen; ability to obtain and maintain a CAC and base access.
