Job summary

Bexar County is seeking an Automotive Mechanic for full-time work in the United States. The role involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles, performing state inspections, and servicing police fleet equipment.

You will use computerized testers and must be able to work overtime if required. Minimum qualifications include a HS diploma or GED with 3 years of automotive experience, tool ownership, and a valid Texas driver’s license.

Qualifications

• HS or GED with three years automotive mechanic experience.
• Knowledge of computerized engine test equipment.
• Knowledge of engine analyzer and compression test equipment.
• Knowledge of general automotive systems (brakes, suspension, electrical, cooling).
• Must obtain ASE certification in at least two categories by end of probation (6 months).
• Must provide or furnish own hand tools and have a valid Texas driver’s license.
• Must clear background check and pre-employment drug screen; may work overtime.

Responsibilities

• Conducts testing and diagnostic work on mechanical, electrical and other systems.
• Removes and replaces defective vehicle parts.
• Performs brake system repairs and replacements, including wheel bearing work.
• Performs engine tune-ups, oil changes and lubrication.
• Repairs or replaces ignition, A/C, fuel, suspension, steering, electrical and exhaust parts as needed.
• Performs state vehicle inspections per state requirements.
• Performs transmission service and coolant system maintenance.
• Installs/removes emergency equipment on police vehicles; tests and tests systems.
• Road tests vehicles for safe operation and performance.
