Job summary

Arnold Packaging is seeking an Engineering Technician in Sparrows Point, MD, to support our engineering team from build through installation and service. You will work with the Controls Engineer to wire, set up, and install automated packaging equipment and keep the production equipment in our facility running.

The role suits someone who enjoys hands-on problem solving on the shop floor, performing tests, and taking equipment from parts to production.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in electrical, mechanical, or mechatronics technology or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 2+ years of experience with industrial machinery, controls, or automated equipment.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
• Knowledge of low-voltage control wiring, motors, sensors, and pneumatics.
• Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and electrical test equipment.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites including overnight trips.
• Valid driver's license and safe driving record.

Responsibilities

• Assist Controls Engineer with wiring, setups, and installations.
• Wire control panels, sensors, motors, and field devices from electrical schematics and drawings.
• Assemble, set up, and test packaging machinery in our shop before shipment.
• Support on-site installation, startup, and commissioning at customer facilities.
• Load and verify PLC and HMI programs under the Controls Engineer’s direction.
• Run equipment tests and document results before customer acceptance.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on production equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues to minimize downtime.
• Keep maintenance logs, PM schedules, and spare parts inventory up to date.
• Support equipment changeovers, upgrades, and installation of new shop equipment.
• Follow lockout/tagout and all plant safety procedures.
• Document service work, update as-built drawings, and report findings back to engineering.
