Job summary

Perrigo in Bronx, NY is seeking an Automation Technician (2nd Shift) to troubleshoot, maintain, and improve automation and control systems across manufacturing, packaging, facilities, and utility operations. The role covers legacy and modern technologies, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, BMS, vision systems, robotics, serialization, instrumentation, drives, and industrial networks.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent experience in automation/related field.
• 3–5 years in industrial automation in manufacturing.
• Experience with PLC/HMI/SCADA/BMS and instrumentation.
• Experience with automation platforms: Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, Schneider Electric; vision systems, serialization, robotics.
• Experience in FDA-regulated environment; GMP, validation, data integrity familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, maintain, and support automation, controls, instrumentation, and electrical systems.
• Provide technical support for packaging, bulk manufacturing, facility and utility equipment.
• Perform debugging and approved modifications to PLC, HMI, SCADA, and automation apps.
• Support BMS, industrial networks, backups, documentation, disaster recovery, and change control.
• Assist startup, commissioning, validation, and integration of new equipment.
• Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement efforts.
• Maintain compliance with GMP, safety, and data integrity requirements.
• Coordinate with vendors and system integrators as needed.

Description Overview

The Automation Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving automation and control systems across manufacturing, packaging, facilities, and utility operations. This role supports legacy and modern automation technologies, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, Building Management Systems (BMS), vision systems, robotics, serialization systems, instrumentation, drives, and industrial networks.

The Automation Technician works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, and external vendors to maximize safety, reliability, compliance, and equipment performance.

Pay range: $42.00 - $52.00/hr

2nd shift (2:00 PM to 10:30 PM)

Scope of the Role

• Troubleshoot, maintain, and support automation, controls, instrumentation, and electrical systems.
• Provide technical support for packaging equipment, bulk manufacturing equipment, facility systems, and utility equipment, including legacy and newly installed systems as well as fully automated and semi-automatic equipment.
• Perform troubleshooting and approved modifications to PLC, HMI, SCADA, and automation applications.
• Support automation platforms and related technologies, including Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Cognex and Keyence vision systems, Optel serialization systems, and Universal Robots (UR).
• Support Building Management Systems (BMS), industrial networks, system backups, technical documentation, disaster recovery, and change control activities.
• Assist with startup, commissioning, validation, optimization, and integration of new equipment and automation technologies.
• Participate in root cause investigations, reliability improvements, preventive maintenance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain compliance with applicable GMP, safety, data integrity, and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and system integrators as needed.

Experience Required

• Associate degree in Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience supporting industrial automation systems in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with industrial control systems and automation technologies, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, Building Management Systems (BMS), instrumentation, drives, industrial networks, and communication protocols.
• Experience supporting automation platforms and related technologies such as Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider Electric, machine vision systems, serialization systems, robotics, and automated manufacturing equipment.
• Experience working in an FDA-regulated manufacturing environment, including pharmaceutical, medical device, consumer health, or other regulated industries.
• Knowledge of GMP requirements, change control processes, validation activities, and data integrity principles preferred.
