Job summary

Perrigo in Michigan is seeking an Automation/Vision Engineering Technician to support manufacturing and packaging by maintaining and improving automation and vision systems. • Experience with industrial vision systems (barcode scanning, OCR, label presence).
• Familiarity with change control and validation processes.
• Excellent organizational and multi-project management abilities.
• Good cross-functional communication and interaction with external partners.
• Ability to work from ladders/lifts and perform heavy lifting.

Description Overview

The Automation/Vision Engineering Technician plays a critical role in supporting manufacturing and packaging operations by maintaining and improving automation and vision systems.

This position involves hands-on troubleshooting, system upgrades, and collaboration across departments to ensure reliable and efficient production processes.

Scope of the Role

• Provide technical support during third-shift operations, including emergency response and troubleshooting.


• Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, operations, and IT teams to resolve automation and vision system issues.


• Lead and support system upgrades to enhance reliability, efficiency, and safety.


• Participate in change management activities and maintain accurate documentation of system modifications.


• Review and validate equipment specifications to ensure compliance with site standards.


• Be available for overtime and after-hours support as needed.

Experience Required

• High School Diploma or GED.


• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in packaging or manufacturing environments.


• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.


• Familiarity with change control and validation processes.


• Strong organizational skills with the ability to navigate multiple projects simultaneously.


• Effective communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and interaction with external partners.


• Physical capability to work from ladders/lifts, perform heavy lifting, and provide personal transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience programming Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs (RSLogix500, Studio5000).


• Minimum 5 years of experience with industrial vision systems (e.g., barcode scanning, label presence, OCR).


• Solid understanding of Ethernet/IP communication, drives/servos, robotics, and control system design.


• Ability to read and create control system documentation.
