Job summary

Leviat is seeking an Automation Technician with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and systems, to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and improve automated equipment to support safe, efficient production operations.

This role works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Quality teams to minimize downtime and ensure safety, quality, and reliability across all activities.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent in automation field.
• 2–5 years of industrial maintenance/automation experience.
• Experience with PLC basics and safety devices.

Job Description

Leviat is seeking an Automation Technician with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and systems, complemented by exceptional multitasking capabilities. This role will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving automated manufacturing equipment to support safe, efficient, and reliable production operations. This position works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Quality teams to minimize downtime, improve equipment performance, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate possesses hands-on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, along with basic PLC knowledge and experience supporting automated systems. The Automation Technician will work collaboratively with all levels of management and hourly employees to reinforce a culture of safety and ensure safety remains a top priority across all activities.

• Troubleshoot and repair automated manufacturing equipment, conveyors, robotic systems, sensors, drives, and control devices.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities on production equipment.
• Support equipment uptime by responding to breakdowns and identifying root causes of failures.
• Troubleshoot basic PLC systems and understand ladder logic, inputs/outputs, timers, and counters.
• Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical components including motors, gearboxes, bearings, chains, belts, and pneumatic systems.
• Assist with PLC program monitoring, troubleshooting, and basic modifications under engineering guidance.
• Support machine installations, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects.
• Calibrate and replace sensors, instrumentation, and automation components as needed.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and equipment documentation.
• Follow all company safety procedures, lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements, and manufacturing standards.
• Collaborate with engineers and production personnel to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
• Other duties may be assigned as needed

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in industrial Automation/Robotics Automation or related field preferr ed.
• Technical trade school training, apprenticeship, or 2–5 years of relevant industrial maintenance/automation experience.
• Troubleshoot basic PLC systems and understand ladder logic, inputs/outputs, timers, and counters.
• Work with HMI/operator interface systems.
• Diagnose and repair sensors, photo eyes, proximity switches, and safety devices.
• U nderstand and troubleshoot VFDs, servo drives, motor controls, and automated equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical equipment failures.
• Maintain pumps, motors, bearings, chains, sprockets, belts, and gearboxes.
• T roubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Use precision measuring instruments and standard mechanical maintenance tools.
• Troubleshoot industrial electrical control circuits and equipment.
• Safely use multimeters and other diagnostic tools.
• Understand relays, contactors, motor starters, and power distribution systems.
• Follow electrical safety standards, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Quickly identify and resolve automation, electrical, and mechanical issues to minimize production downtime and maintain safe, reliable equipment operation.

Physical Environment

• Lifting no more than 40 pounds.
• Ability to sustain prolonged periods of standing and walking for up to 8 hours per shift.
• T his position may require various physical activities, including but not limited to walking, standing, bending, stretching and using hands and fingers to grasp, push and lift.
