Job summary

Design Solutions & Integration is hiring an Automation Technician in Odessa, Texas. The role involves installing, operating, and maintaining industrial control systems, focusing on PLCs and HMIs.

Job description

Automation Technician

Design Solutions and Integration is an employee‑owned company that delivers automation, electrical, and mechanical services to major energy partners such as Diamondback Energy, ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, and Chevron. The company has been supporting oil‑field operations since 2001 with safety‑driven solutions that keep projects moving.

As an Automation Technician you will install, operate and maintain industrial control systems that include PLCs, HMIs, process instrumentation, electrical equipment and controls. Your responsibilities include troubleshooting control equipment, electrical and instrumentation at production facilities (gathering, disposal, injection, vapor recovery, LACT) and loading software changes for Allen‑Bradley, Schneider, GE, Idec, Automation Direct, Siemens PLCs and Red Lion, Maple HMIs.

Key duties:

  • Install, configure and troubleshoot electrical systems up to and including 600 V AC/DC.
  • Set up and maintain instrumentation for level, pressure, temperature and flow.
  • Assist lead technicians with loop checks and facility startup.
  • Use VMWare, PLC and HMI software to support diagnostics and repairs.
  • Document work in spreadsheets and forms.
Desired Skills
  • Math basics—addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions.
  • Computer skills: Windows OS, Microsoft Office, VMWare, USB, serial communications.
  • Electrical AC/DC voltages up to 600 V.
  • Networking: TCP/IP addressing, NAT, port forwarding, routing.
  • Mechanical: use of electric and mechanical hand tools.
  • Communication: Ethernet, Ethernet wireless, RF 900 MHz (FreeWave).
  • Willingness to learn and invest time and resources to develop skill gaps.
Technician Skill Level

Level I Technician

  • Electrical troubleshooting of AC single‑phase, three‑phase, and AC‑DC control and power circuits.
  • Instrumentation installation of level, pressure, temperature and flow devices.
  • Assist with loop checks as required.
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) – fill spreadsheets and forms.

Level II Technician (includes Level I)

  • Electrical installation of AC‑DC control and power circuits.
  • Instrumentation configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Lead facility loop checks.
  • Use VMWare, PLC and HMI software for troubleshooting.

Level III Technician (includes Levels I and II)

  • Electrical specification of AC‑DC control and power circuits.
  • Specification of new and replacement instrumentation.
  • Progress tracking, loading programs to PLC and HMI, configuration of routers, modems, radios.
  • Microsoft Windows OS, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) – create spreadsheets, startup facility, tune PID loops, verify controls, modify PLC and HMI programs.

Salary: $35 – $40 an hour.
