Job summary

Danos is seeking an Automation Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair automation and control systems across well sites and production facilities in the field. You will monitor PLCs, RTUs, SCADA, HMIs, and instrumentation to ensure safe, reliable operation and respond to alarms and faults promptly.

The role requires reading P&IDs and schematics, using testing tools, and performing basic programming or diagnostics as needed while traveling between field locations in New Mexico

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience with PLCs, RTUs, SCADA, HMIs and field instrumentation.
• Ability to travel between field locations with a valid driver's license.
• Willingness to work in oil and gas field environments.

Responsibilities

Overview

The Automation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing automation and control systems used in oil and gas production operations. This position supports safe and reliable operation of field equipment by monitoring and maintaining PLCs, RTUs, SCADA systems, instrumentation, communications equipment, and associated electrical/control devices.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair automation and control equipment.
• Troubleshoot PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and associated field instrumentation.
• Monitor automation systems and respond to alarms, communication failures, and equipment issues.
• Perform troubleshooting on transmitters, sensors, control valves, switches, and other instrumentation.
• Work with pressure, temperature, flow, and level measurement devices.
• Troubleshoot 4–20 mA signals, digital/analog inputs and outputs, and control circuits.
• Perform basic PLC/RTU programming, configuration, and diagnostics as required.
• Maintain and troubleshoot radio, cellular, Ethernet, and other communication systems used for remote monitoring.
• Calibrate and test instrumentation to ensure accurate readings and proper operation.
• Support automation equipment at well sites, tank batteries, production facilities, compressor sites, and other field locations.
• Read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, and control system documentation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required; technical or instrumentation/automation training preferred.
• Previous automation, instrumentation, electrical, or controls experience preferred.
• Experience with PLCs, RTUs, SCADA, HMIs, and field instrumentation.
• Knowledge of 4–20 mA instrumentation and analog/digital control signals.
• Ability to use electrical and instrumentation testing equipment, including multimeters and calibrators.
• Ability to read P&IDs, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel between field locations.
• Ability to work independently in a field environment and safely manage multiple priorities.
• Must meet conditional job offer requirements.
