Job summary

New Pig Corporation in Pennsylvania seeks an Automation Technician to support three locations (Tipton, Duncansville, Altoona) by advancing manufacturing automation. You will troubleshoot PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, read electrical schematics, design control panels, and ensure safety standards.

Responsibilities include leading automation projects from concept through installation and qualification, and supporting other manufacturing engineering initiatives with a controls perspective.

Qualifications

• 2 years hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience reading electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting ability including Allen Bradley RSLogix 500/5000 and RSView/FactoryTalk View Studio.

Job description

We’re seeking a highly motivated Automation Technician to join our growing team. This position supports our three manufacturing locations in Tipton, Duncansville, and Altoona.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in advanced manufacturing projects, to drive further automation of manufacturing process
• Work with diverse mix of manufacturing and production associated machine control and networking communication applications
• Troubleshoot existing manufacturing equipment (3 manufacturing locations) to support current product production lines. Demonstrated experience in reading electrical schematics and using test equipment to diagnose issues with but not limited to PLC’s, VFD’s, control systems, wiring, motors, relays, fuses, and control networks.
• Lead automation and controls projects from concept and design through purchase, installation, and qualification within budget
• Support and assist other manufacturing engineering projects from controls aspect
• Adhere to New Pig's Safety, Environment, and Quality Standards

Minimum Requirements:

• Associate degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical or other Engineering field
• 2 years hands-on experience in manufacturing environment
• This position will be the be the in-house expert on control system machine safety requirements. The ideal candidate will actively seek out, obtain, and maintain appropriate machine safety certifications.
• High degree of PLC programming and troubleshooting experience. Experience with Allen Bradley platform including the use of RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, and RSView/FactoryTalk View Studio preferred.
• Ability to design and build electrical control cabinets and run control wiring
• Demonstrated understanding of basic control system components: function, selection, and wiring. Including but not limited to: PLC, power supplies, relays, switches, fuses, circuit breakers, and motor starters.
• Demonstrated experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) – Selection and sizing; installation, wiring, and programming; troubleshooting.
• Demonstrated experience creating and/or maintaining HMI and machine interface systems
• Understanding of mechanical automation: pneumatic cylinders, solenoid valves, gearboxes, and motors.
• Competency using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, and/or 3D design (Solidworks preferred) as required to maintain control system documentation
• Basic knowledge of industrial power systems: phases/voltage, breakers, and equipment level power distribution
• Servo experience a plus
• Robotics experience a plus
• Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation to commute between locations as required
