Job summary

General Motors is seeking an Automation Engineer in Warren, MI to drive supplier automation assessments and optimization across material handling and flow. You will align with Industrialization, Purchasing Program Management, PPCO, and direct purchasing to influence strategic decisions.

The role requires 2+ years in manufacturing or automation, strong communication, and the ability to travel up to 50% domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing, automation, supply chain, purchasing, or related field.
• 2+ years relevant work experience in manufacturing, automation, and/or purchasing.
• Understanding of material handling and material flow optimization in complex environments.
• Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50%.

Responsibilities

• Lead supplier automation maturity assessments using GM frameworks and analytics.
• Develop automation maturity strategies aligned with GM goals.
• Evaluate and optimize material handling and flow for cost/efficiency targets.
• Coordinate assessments, baselines, and improvement plans at facilities.
• Act as strategic liaison between suppliers and internal GM teams for data-driven decisions.
• Lead supplier engagement, negotiations, and long-term actions for suppliers.
• Present recommendations to senior leadership and drive adoption globally.
• Own GM's automation maturity model and supplier evaluation processes.
