Hunter Douglas, Inc. is seeking an Automation engineer to design, develop, and implement automated systems across North America plants.

You will work with engineering, production, and IT to identify automation opportunities, define technical requirements, and integrate equipment and controls into new processes or production lines. The role requires programming PLCs, robotics, vision systems, VFDs, and servo motion, along with strong project management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electronics, Automation Engineering, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience as a Controls/Automation Engineer in manufacturing.
• Experience with Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, IO-Link networks.
• Hands-on robotics, vision systems, VFDs, and servo motion control.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects with defined timelines and budgets.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and external vendors.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to travel 35–40% across US, Mexico, and vendor sites.
• Valid passport and driver’s license; travel on short notice may be required.

Responsibilities

• Lead automation and controls scope for new equipment and production lines.
• Design, program, and deploy PLCs, HMIs, robotics, vision systems, and networks.
• Define project scope, specifications, budgets, and timelines.
• Manage multiple automation projects; track cost, schedule, and performance.
• Drive RFQs, vendor selection, and design reviews; coordinate FATs/SATs and startup.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, IT, Quality, and Maintenance for system integration.
• Support machine connectivity, data acquisition, and MES/IT integration.
• Identify continuous improvement opportunities to improve cycle time and OEE.
