Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. is seeking an Automation Engineer focused on power system automation projects. You will plan, design, develop, test and commission automation solutions, including RTUs, real-time controllers, HMI, and SCADA interfaces.

Expect collaborative work with project managers and customers and substantial travel. The role requires expertise in IEC-61131 programming, Python, IT/OT network design, and experience with standard protocols.

Qualifications

Associate to Engineering III level considered.
Experience with IEC-61850, DNP or Modbus protocols preferred.
Familiarity with power automation and control systems expected.
Will travel at least 20% domestically and abroad.

Responsibilities

Lead project engineering activities and coordinate with Project Managers and customers.
Attend customer meetings to provide SEL equipment expertise and recommendations.
Define and oversee multiple objectives with limited guidance.
Research SEL and third-party equipment and solutions.
Design control logic schemes and network configurations.
Analyze one-line drawings and BOMs for projects.
Review deliverables for quality before submittal.
Create automation design specifications and drawings.
Perform factory testing and commissioning procedures.
Prepare field safety documents and service reports.
