Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) in Charlotte, NC seeks a Project Engineer II - Automation to support power system automation projects. You will apply foundational automation concepts, design and validate automation and protection systems, and deliver documentation and reports with high quality and safety standards.

The role requires a BS in Electrical Engineering, 5+ years of experience, travel eligibility (25%), and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline.
• 5+ years relevant application experience with electric power systems and automation practices.
• Good knowledge of electric power system protection and control, integration, automation and communications apps.
• Working knowledge of electric power system design, studies, ICT and protective relay applications.
• Willing to travel domestically and internationally a minimum of 25%.
• Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
• Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
• Preferred: Engineer in Training certificate; PE I considered.

Responsibilities

• Possesses, understands and applies fundamental concepts of power system automation and SEL products.
• Train and assist customers with design, configuration, validation, installation, commissioning and operation of automation and/or protection systems.
• Complete and implement assigned work within scope, schedule and budget to a high level of quality and safety.
• Participate in the preparation of functional design specifications.
• Prepare and maintain detailed design documents, reports, checklists, test reports, and deliverables.
