Job summary

HBD Industries, an integrated operating company of manufacturing businesses, is deploying automation across select sites. The Automation Project Engineer will develop technical specs, collaborate with integrators, and install automation at factories, acting as the primary automation engineer on site.

Role partners with an Automation Project Manager to drive projects, with frequent site work and travel; home base preferred in southern California, North Carolina, or Georgia.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/ electrical/ mechatronics/manufacturing/robotics or related technical discipline.
• 3 years of experience implementing industrial automation and robotics solutions.
• Experience with robotic system programming and commissioning.
• Experience integrating automation systems into manufacturing environments.
• Experience troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, controls, and robotic systems.
• Experience leading technical execution of capital projects.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate feasibility studies including technical, operational, safety, quality, and financial evaluations.
• Define system requirements, functional specifications, and performance criteria.
• Lead the acquisition and installation of automation equipment from concept through production.
• Manage equipment suppliers, system integrators, contractors, and technical consultants.
• Perform robot programming, path optimization, and process configuration.
• Support PLC integration, I/O validation, HMI configuration, and controls troubleshooting.
• Provide hands-on support at the factory during installation and startup.
• Lead FAT and SAT tests and ensure successful startup and throughput.
