Job description

We are seeking an Automation/MES Engineer in a remote work environment. This exciting position will support the digital transformation and sustainability initiatives in manufacturing for CertainTeed Roofing products in North America. The role requires strong technical and communication skills to manage local factory operational technology (OT), SCADA/MES, and automation manufacturing infrastructure. The engineer will collaborate closely with IT Digital in Manufacturing teams and factory personnel to develop standards, support projects, maintain systems, and provide Level 1-2 support, ensuring quality, availability, and performance of OT, SCADA/MES, and automation systems.

Responsibilities include:
  1. PAC/PLC Control Systems:
    • Develop and adopt future-oriented automation and control standards.
    • Implement control standards for automation and controls obsolescence programs.
    • Develop systematic backup, recovery, and change control programs for PAC/PLC, HMI, and peripheral equipment.
    • Support factory Automation and Controls Engineers in troubleshooting, programming, and interpreting electrical and network schematics.
  2. System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)/Manufacturing Execution System (MES):
    • Possess advanced knowledge of systems like Wonderware System Platform, Rockwell SE, Inductive Automation Ignition, and associated Historians.
    • Manage OPC Servers, MS SQL Server, and troubleshoot messaging between production equipment and SCADA/MES systems.
    • Perform security updates and maintain backup and recovery plans for SCADA/MES.
  3. Operational Technology [OT]:
    • Intermediate troubleshooting of network switches, IP routing, and messaging protocols such as TCP/IP, Modbus, DH+, RSControlNet.
    • Understand DMZ Firewall architecture and develop standards for factory system access control.
  4. Industrial Performance Improvement:
    • Document MES&A platforms, develop manuals, and analyze performance data for improvements.
    • Support capital and process improvement initiatives.
  5. Competency Building:
    • Collaborate with teams to coach, assess, and improve competencies in automation and MES roles.
    • Act as a liaison to facilitate effective communication between market and factory teams.
Qualifications:
  • 5-7 years of industrial MES and automation experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering Technology.
  • Experience with Wonderware System Platform, Rockwell SE, Ignition, or similar MES applications.
  • Proficiency with PAC/PLC platforms, SAP data flows, industrial networks, SQL, and common software packages.
  • Strong teamwork, mentoring, coaching, and analytical skills.

Legal & Compensation:

We are an equal opportunity employer. The salary range is $89,500 to $138,500 annually, with potential bonuses, depending on location and experience.
