Job summary

CreateMe in Newark, CA seeks a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to design, build, and iterate automated manufacturing equipment for soft materials. You will prototype mechanisms, test assemblies, and collaborate with controls and software teams to turn early R&D concepts into robust production hardware.

Qualifications

• Significant mechanical design experience with automation equipment and industrial machinery.
• Strong CAD skills and ability to create clean, buildable designs and assemblies.
• Knowledge of mechanisms, tolerancing, materials, sensors/actuators interfaces, and manufacturable part design.
• Hands-on experience building, testing, debugging, or improving physical hardware.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical systems, assemblies, fixtures, tooling, machine modules, and prototype equipment for automated manufacturing applications.
• Develop CAD models, drawings, BOMs, tolerance schemes, and design documentation for parts and assemblies.
• Work hands-on with prototypes: assemble, test, debug, measure performance, identify failure modes, and drive design improvements.
• Support early-stage process R&D by designing experiments, building test setups, and translating concepts into robust equipment designs.
• Collaborate with controls, software, manufacturing, process, quality, and technicians to integrate mechanical designs into full automation systems.
• Create documentation including drawings, test plans, setup notes, and design rationale.
• Work with vendors to fabricate and modify mechanical components and assemblies.
• Participate in equipment bring-up, pilot builds, validation runs, and production-readiness work.
