Job summary

Silfex, a Lam Research Company, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support manufacturing sites in Springfield, OH, and Eaton, OH. In this role, you will identify automation opportunities, improve cycle time and part quality, and lead reliability initiatives for new and existing equipment.

The ideal candidate will have at least a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience. Strong knowledge of control systems technologies and CAD is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience; or 3 years with a Master's degree.
  • Working knowledge of control systems technologies.
  • CAD (2D & 3D) experience preferred.

Job description

Job Overview

Mechanical Engineer reporting directly to the Automation and Design Engineering Manager, supporting the manufacturing sites in Springfield, OH and Eaton, OH. Responsible for identifying automation opportunities, improving cycle time and part quality, and leading reliability initiatives for existing and new equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Automation Engineering team to implement new automated systems and resolve technical issues, ensuring seamless integration with existing processes and technologies.
  • Develop and implement equipment reliability strategies for both new and existing automated systems, focusing on predictive maintenance, equipment upgrade opportunities, and automation integration.
  • Support the team in designing automation‑centric plant layouts and work cells, incorporating systems‑thinking best practices to enable future growth.
  • Develop project scopes, financial models, and ROI calculations for proposed automation and mechanical improvements.
  • Conduct engineering analyses and time studies on the shop floor for key processes, identify and recommend automation opportunities.
  • Coordinate cross‑functional efforts to review, analyze, and model manufacturing process workflows, ensuring future‑state automated production systems meet reliability and layout requirements.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, the candidate must possess the following skills, knowledge, and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience; OR a Master’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Working knowledge of Fanuc, ABB, Siemens, or other control systems technologies (actuators, sensors, vision systems, etc.).
  • Project management experience.
  • Lean manufacturing experience.
  • Effective Microsoft Office Suite skills.
  • CAD (2D & 3D) experience preferred (Solid Edge, AutoCAD, FlexSim).
  • Analysis experience using business intelligence tools such as Power BI.
  • Formal training in data analytics, including data structuring, statistical modeling, and simulation techniques.
Physical Demands

The employee regularly requires standing, handling objects, and using hands to operate equipment. They may need to reach, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl frequently, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Visual tasks require close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus. The employee works near moving mechanical parts, fumes, and airborne particles and may encounter wet and humid conditions. Moderate noise levels prevail, and all PPE requirements must be met.
