Job summary

Blue Origin in Washington state seeks a senior automation development Director to lead our automation team. You will guide the design, implementation, and deployment of scalable automated manufacturing systems that improve safety, quality, and efficiency across facilities.

You will own the architecture and roadmap, oversee mechanical and electrical design, PLC/robot programming, and SCADA applications. Collaborate with data science and AI teams to deliver data-driven enhancements.

Qualifications

• BS in a relevant engineering field.
• 8+ years in automation leadership of a multi-functional team.
• 6+ years with automation software languages (Ladder, ST, C/C++).
• 6+ years with controls and automation software environments (Siemens TIA Portal, Allen Bradley).
• 3+ years in layout design & cell configuration.
• Ability to interpret electrical/mechanical drawings.
• Strong design and process simplification skills.
• Clear communication with partners.

Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to improve manufacturing processes through automation; own the technical architecture, roadmap and implementation.
• Oversee mechanical and electrical design of automation solutions, including component integration and hardware development.
• Lead PLC and Robot programming design and modifications.
• Support SCADA applications (Ignition, Kepware, AWS, etc.).
• Collaborate with data-science/AI teams to pair control systems with IoT analytics for data-driven enhancements.
