Job summary

CRB is seeking an Automation Engineer V – Senior Lead to oversee the automation and controls discipline across projects, from design through field execution. You will guide a team, manage budgets, and ensure quality in complex engineering efforts for life sciences and related sectors.

The role requires 15+ years in design environments, strong leadership, and advanced knowledge of control system schematics, P&IDs, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience, preferably in a design firm setting.
  • PE registration and ISA CIP certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee discipline at project level and manage discipline budget on simple to complex projects.
  • Direct and manage workflows of design staff to meet client expectations and project goals.
  • Develop construction drawing packages and write construction specifications for advanced projects.
  • Provide lead support for RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch lists, and construction progress reports.
  • Mentor Engineer I-IV and Designer I-III; lead discipline design and engineering teams.

Your experience allows you to execute and lead large projects through all phases of design, documentation and administration, as well as actively support large projects within a multi-discipline team setting. You will leverage your creativity with your knowledge of mechanical system controls, process automation controls and regulatory standards to solve problems that balance technical and design excellence.

About the Role

The Automation Engineer V – Senior Lead is responsible for overseeing the discipline at a project level and managing the project discipline budget on simple to complex projects of all sizes. The Senior Lead has a thorough understanding of the development and field implementation of documents through all project phases.The Senior Lead Engineer is responsible for directing and managing the workflows and execution of design and engineering support staff (Entry-Level to Senior) to meet client expectationsand project goals.

Responsibilities
  • Workswith a Project Manageronproposal development, man-hour planningandproject scheduling for the discipline scope of work on large,advanced/complex projects.
  • Identifiesand resolvesadvanced non-compliant existing conditions during site walks and construction field surveys.
  • Developsconstruction drawing packages and writesconstruction specifications on advanced and complex projects without oversight.
  • Provides lead and advanced support of construction activities such as RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development and construction progress reports.
  • Conductstechnical and leadership interviews.
  • Conductsquality checking of documents for advanced complex projects(e.g.,technical verification of design calculations and documentation)and drivesoverall project quality.
  • Providesmentorship to Discipline Engineer I, II, III and IV and/or Designer I, II andIII
  • Leadsadvanced project system design programming and master planning with support from Senior Engineer
  • Leadsa team of discipline staff in the execution of advanced projects discipline design and engineering
Minimum Qualifications
  • ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in discipline-specificfield of study(ChemE, ME or EE)
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience, preferably in a design firm setting
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer registration
  • ISA Certified Automation Professional
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Proficiency in discipline-specific software
  • Advanced knowledge of cGMPs and/or experience with advanced technology industry projects such as R&D labs, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, foodandnutrition,and/or consumer products
  • Attend external seminars/conferences for professional development
  • Expert experience with performing engineering calculations, and developing and implementing list of discipline systems designs
  • Expert experience with implementing fundamental design aspects of control system schematics, panel fabrication drawingsandfield wiring plans design
  • Expert experience developing Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams(P&IDs)
  • Expert experience with the electrical code
  • Advanced experience with other applicable industry standards
  • Advanced experience with applicable mechanical and building codes
  • Advanced experience and knowledge with designing Safety Instrumented Systems
  • Proficient with advanced internal and external cross-discipline project team coordination
  • Proficient with advanced coordination with construction trade partners, vendors and manufacturers
  • Proficient at advanced design calculations without supervision
