Job summary

igus, Inc. in Rhode Island is seeking an Automation Engineer to design, program, integrate, and deploy automation solutions for customers and internal operations.

You will evaluate project requirements, develop control strategies, and support projects from concept through commissioning. Responsibilities include system integration, prototype testing, technical support, and creating documentation while ensuring safety standards and customer requirements are met.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with industrial automation, robotics, controls, or machine integration.
• Knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, industrial controls, sensors, motion control systems, and robotics.
• Experience with automation programming and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement automation solutions using robotics, motion control, sensors, actuators, and industrial hardware.
• Develop and modify PLC, HMI, robot, and motion control programs; configure industrial communication protocols.
• Lead projects from concept through deployment, managing scope, schedules, and deliverables.
• Integrate robots, tooling, vision systems, sensors, conveyors into production-ready systems.
• Assemble, test, validate, and improve prototype automation systems and proof-of-concept apps.
• Support automation initiatives to increase productivity and reduce manual processes.
• Design and maintain demonstration systems for Low Cost Automation solutions.
• Provide technical support, troubleshooting, training, and customer-facing presentations.
• Create technical documentation and ensure safety/compliance with requirements.
