Job summary

Howmet Aerospace Inc. is seeking an Automation Engineer for our Casting Facility in Dover, NJ. The role focuses on designing and implementing robotic assembly tooling, EOAT, fixtures, and automation, using Yaskawa robots and MotoSim to validate concepts before fabrication.

The position involves leading projects from concept to production, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and driving improvements for reliability and throughput. Relocation assistance may be offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechatronics engineering, or related discipline.
• Strong 3D CAD and mechanical design experience.
• Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and mechanical design principles.
• Experience with machine builders, tooling suppliers, fabricators, and other vendors.
• Experience with robotic assembly, automated part handling, fixturing, and process equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, tooling, and robotic systems during commissioning and production.
• Experience with pneumatic, electric, servo-driven, or compliant tooling.
• Strong project management, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and simulate robotic systems, including EOAT, fixtures, and tooling.
• Lead automation projects from concept through fabrication, installation, commissioning, and production.
• Identify opportunities to automate and optimize manual processes and support robotic systems.
• Develop preventive maintenance requirements, troubleshooting documentation, and training materials.
• Support capital project development, including scope, cost estimates, benefits, and ROI.
• Provide technical leadership to automation technicians, operators, and other engineers.
• Evaluate emerging robotics, simulation, and automation technologies.
