Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. is seeking an Automation & Controls Engineer to provide expert support for manufacturing and packaging operations. You will troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, robotics, machine vision, and motion systems while leading root cause analyses and implementing corrective actions.

The role requires SDLC documentation, validation activities, on-call availability, and collaboration on projects from concept to deployment. Travel is around 10% with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Highschool graduate with minimum 3 years in industrial automation support.
• Hands-on troubleshooting experience with PLCs and HMI systems.
• Experience with SDLC documentation, change controls and validation activities.
• Strong analytical, communication and project management skills.
• On call availability nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support for automation systems in manufacturing and packaging operations.
• Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, robotics, machine vision, motion control and servo-driven equipment.
• Lead root cause analysis and implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Support integration of new equipment and emerging automation technologies.
• Lead automation projects from concept through implementation.
• Develop requirements, functional specs, testing strategies and deployment plans.
• Author specs, design documents, IQ/OQ protocols, SOPs, risk assessments and change controls.
• Support SDLC and Computer System Validation activities.
• Lead automation-related deviations, investigations and CAPAs.
• Drive reliability, efficiency and modernization via Lean and structured problem solving.
